The cover piece

The moose that made the cover

The Tipsy Moose Tavern sign is a sculpted moose head breaking through a gilded oval, with a carved barrel slung beneath it on a ribbon banner. It was featured on the cover of Sign Builder Illustrated.

It is a good illustration of what separates a sculpted sign from a printed one: the head is fully three-dimensional, the antlers are carved separately and set into the panel, and every surface is hand-painted. It reads as an object, not a graphic.
